Road Freight Operator - Time Critical

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Road Freight Operator to join a fast-paced Time Critical transport operation. This role requires someone who thrives under pressure, enjoys problem-solving and has a strong background in freight forwarding and European transport planning.
This is a hands-on, customer-focused role where you will manage urgent shipments across road and airfreight solutions, ensuring deliveries are completed efficiently, cost-effectively and to the highest service standards.
Responsibilities of a Road Freight Operator:
You will be responsible for:
Managing customer enquiries and orders via phone and email
Booking, planning and tracking urgent shipments
Providing EU and UK transport quotations
Offering time-critical road and airfreight solutions
Handling line stoppage and high-priority situations
Sourcing and negotiating with transport suppliers
Maintaining clear communication with warehouse and operations teams
Reviewing routes and suppliers to maximise profitability
Ensuring all jobs are accurately entered, updated and closed on the system
Obtaining PODs and completing documentation for invoicing
Monitoring KPIs and maintaining system accuracy
Escalating operational issues appropriately
This role requires full control of shipment management from A to B, using solutions such as hand carry, airfreight and road transport to deliver results for customers.
What We're Looking For:
Proven experience in a similar freight forwarding or transport coordination role
Strong European planning experience (essential)
Sound knowledge of the transport and freight forwarding industry
Confident communicator with strong customer service skills
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Comfortable working under pressure in time-critical situations
Strong system and MS Office skills
Commercial awareness and focus on profitability
A proactive, "can-do" attitude
CPC qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
